One, students who are unable to attend school, participate in gatherings or extracurricular activities for any reason must follow the procedures for requesting leave according to these regulations; otherwise, it will be treated as truancy.

Two, types of leave:

  1. Personal leave – For personal matters that prevent attendance.
  2. Sick leave – For illness preventing attendance.
  3. Menstrual leave – For discomfort due to menses, students may take one day off per month for menstrual discomfort. If the leave exceeds one day, it will be counted as sick leave. (The application process is the same as for sick leave.)
  4. Official leave – For government agency and school assignments.
  5. Bereavement leave – Seven days for immediate family (including grandparents and stepparents), three days for siblings (of any kind).
  6. Temporary absence – Requires filling out an absence form, approval from the homeroom teacher, subject teacher, safety counselor, student counseling group leader, or student affairs group leader, and entry in the absence register before leaving. Upon return to school, the leave procedures must be completed.
  7. Maternity leave (pre-birth, childbirth, miscarriage), paternity leave, childcare leave – Can be taken with relevant proof.

When a student is unable to attend classes due to childbirth and needs to take maternity leave, they should provide a certificate issued by the National Health Insurance hospital for processing. This leave period does not count towards the cumulative hours of term leave or sick leave, but it will not be considered as perfect attendance.

    • Antenatal Leave: Up to eight days of antenatal leave may be granted before childbirth. It can be applied for in segments, but it must be used before childbirth and cannot be retained for use after childbirth.
    • Miscarriage leave: If pregnant for more than five months and miscarriage occurs, six weeks of leave are granted (including weekends); if pregnant for more than three months but less than five months, 18 days of leave are granted (including weekends); if pregnant for less than three months, 14 days of leave are granted (including weekends), and it should be taken all at once.
    • Childbirth leave: After childbirth, seven weeks of leave are granted (including weekends), and it should be taken all at once.
    • Paternity leave: Three days are granted for spouses during childbirth, which can be applied for multiple times. However, it should be taken within three days before or after the spouse’s childbirth.
    • Parental leave: Students who need to take care of or look after children under the age of three may request parental leave.

Three, differentiation of leave application responsibilities:

  1. For a one-day leave, approval is granted by the homeroom teacher, safety counselor, student counseling group leader, or student affairs group leader.
  2. For leaves of less than three days, approval is granted by the homeroom teacher and also by one of: the safety counselor, student counseling group leader, or student affairs group leader.
  3. For leave within one week, approval is granted by the homeroom teacher, then by all of the safety counselor, student counseling group leader, student affairs group leader, and finally by the director of student affairs.
  4. For leave exceeding one week, approval is granted by the homeroom teacher, then by the safety counselor, student counseling group leader, student affairs group leader, and the director of student affairs, and finally submitted to the principal for approval.

Four, leave procedures:

  1. Parental signature as proof.
  2. Supporting documents:
    • Sick leave requires relevant evidence (National Health Insurance receipt, hospital diagnosis certificate, etc.).
    • Official leave requires filling out a official leave form and attaching proof from the relevant government agency. Official school leave requires verification from the assigned teacher.
    • Personal leave requires a written statement from parents. Bereavement leave requires a death certificate or obituary.
    • Maternity leave (pre-birth, childbirth, miscarriage), paternity leave, and childcare leave require relevant proof.
  3. Gain signatures from designated personnel as referred to in Article Three.
  4. Leave granted in compliance with the regulations regarding the duration of leave as specified in Article Five.
  5. The student affairs office personnel registers the leave.

Five, duration of leave:

  1. Personal and official leave – Except for special or approved emergency cases, leave procedures must be completed and registered in advance. For special reasons, leave procedures can be completed within five days (excluding weekends) after the event.
  2. Sick leave – When sick or unable to attend school due to pregnancy, the leave procedures must be completed within five days after returning to school (excluding weekends).
  3. Bereavement leave – With a death certificate or obituary, the leave procedures must be completed within five days after returning to school (excluding weekends).

Six, regular examinations (tests) shall be handled according to the school’s regulations on “Supplementary Examination for Missed Regular Examinations”.

Seven, if a student falsely requests leave for reasons, and it is later found to be fabricated, in addition to recording it as truancy, disciplinary actions shall be taken according to the school regulations.

Eight, according to the regulations of the Senior High School Student Learning Assessment Method, if the accumulated truancy hours reach or exceed 42 periods for the entire semester, after the relevant student affairs meeting, appropriate counseling and education measures shall be carried out in accordance with legal regulations (such as changing the learning environment, assisting in taking leave of absence, assisting in transferring schools, referring to psychological counseling, or having parents or guardians take disciplinary actions, etc.).

Nine, according to the provisions of the “Notification and Counseling Method for Middle School Students Not Enrolled or Who Drop Out of School”, if a student fails to apply for leave or cancel leave for the following reasons, subsequent notifications may be made after relevant school meetings:

  1. Definition of dropout students: Students who are absent from school without leave, whose leave is not approved, or who are absent for unknown reasons for three consecutive days or more, or transfer students who fail to complete registration procedures at the transferring school for unknown reasons.
  2. Long-term absentee students: Students who accumulate seven or more days of absence throughout the semester without leave and without a valid reason.

Ten, when unable to attend school due to illness or accident, parents should contact the instructor’s office by phone before 8:00 AM. Instructor’s office phone: 2831-6675 ext. 131 or 134.

Eleven, leave period:

  1. Leave procedures must be completed within five days (excluding weekends) from the day after the leave. If leave procedures are not completed within five days, it will be considered as “overdue leave.” Those holding a leave certificate that expires must perform one hour of school service before reapplying for leave procedures. Except for students with special circumstances approved by the relevant meeting, those exceeding thirty days (including weekends) without completing leave procedures shall not be approved and will be considered as truancy.
  2. In preparation for final assessments, leave procedures must be completed within three days after the day following the final assessment (excluding weekends).

Twelve, in case of exhaustion of all leave available, loss of student ID, or difficulty in identifying the fields of class, seat number, name, and student ID on the leave card, please fill out a leave card application form, and after completing the required procedures with the parent, homeroom teacher, safety counselor, and following the prescribed procedures, apply to the student counseling group. (Must include a 600-word reflection. When issuing the card, it will be marked as a replacement or reissue.)

Thirteen, additional regulations for student official leave:

  1. In principle, the following extracurricular activities or competitions organized by clubs will be handled as such:
    • Incoming correspondence from educational units (Ministry of Education, Bureau) – Reported to the principal for approval to participate.
    • Incoming correspondence from other government agencies:
      1. If mandatory assignment is stipulated, participation is allowed.
      2. If not mandatory, the necessity should be reviewed.
    • Incoming correspondence from private organizations:
      1. If it involves sports competitions, approval is granted by the sports department.
      2. If it involves club activities and the activity or competition takes place during school hours, approval is generally not granted.
      3. After approval to participate, parents fill out a consent form, which is submitted to the relevant office for record-keeping.
      4. Approved extracurricular activities or competitions held during school hours are granted public leave.
  2. Activities must submit an “Activity Application Form” to the Student Affairs and Education Section two weeks in advance, obtain approval, and invite relevant personnel from the Student Affairs Office for guidance. If there are changes in time, location, etc., changes must be registered in advance.
  3. For holding meetings or activities, no external personnel shall be invited without the consent of the school. If external personnel are required as coaches or for academic lectures, approval from the school (principal) must be obtained in advance.
  4. For other situations, no public leave may be applied for under the guise of activities.

Fourteen, any matters not covered in these regulations may be supplemented separately and implemented after approval by the principal.
